A Feast For Crows ... Kinda
After a very long wait, George R. R. Martin is finally done his fourth novel in the epic A Song of Ice and Fire ... kinda. It's big. Real big. Too big to publish as one novel big. Martin had a difficult time publishing the third book in the series as one volume due to its size; A Feast For Crows is even longer! Rather than cut the entire book down the middle like Tad Williams did with his final volume of Memory, Sorrow and Thorn -- To Green Angel Tower, Martin has decided to remove some characters from Feast and place them, in their entirety, in another book that will run parallel to it.
Splitting the book this way should be interesting. I found that when I read To Green Angel, it was hard to keep track of everyone at once and both books dragged on as a result. Martin's solution should make for richer character development without taking forever. Publishing the books in this fashion also allows Feast to get to press much earlier so nuts like me can grab a copy sooner rather than later!
