Peep Research
With Easter fast approaching, Peep marshmallows have hit the stores again. These are versatile critters in an assortment of colors and shapes. Research has been done on them, they've preformed in a major movie and built landmarks -- but I'd never eat them! (links 2,3 via MetaFilter)

Escher Web Sketch
A very neat site that allows you to make your own Escher style tiling patterns. (via MetaFilter)
Car Update
Car's fixed. It took a lot less time than it could've -- wires are tricky that way. The total damage was about $50.00 and, not only do the brake lights work again, but we've got our cruise control back too!

Parties and Police
It has been a busy weekend! We suddenly got social and went visiting on Saturday. A friend of mine from Cape Breton was having a house warming party in Ottawa on Saturday night and invited us along.
Because the housewarming party was in the evening, we decided to go into Ottawa early to visit with one of Jon's friends from university. I met Dave last June, but this was the first time either of us had met Rita, his wife. We walked down to Rideau Center along the canal. It was a really warm day so there were lots of skaters about. Winterlude was starting up so there were big crowds everywhere it seemed -- parking was certainly a problem at Dave's place.
We arrived a bit late at Dwayne's housewarming but the crowd was a lot of fun and, before we knew it, it was 11:30 -- and we still had an over an hour's drive back to Shawville!
On the way through Alymer, we get pulled over by the local police -- ack! Seems we had brake lights doing wonky things, like not turning off! They let us go with a warning to get it fixed within 30 days. Now we've got to call around and see which Mazda dealership can take us and how much this is going to cost! Jon's dad doesn't think it'll be too much; I hope he's right!

30 Second Bunny Films
Bizarre and surreal mini flicks starring bunnies. (via Pookzilla)
G4 iBooks
My school is slowing building up a bank of iBooks for the high school kids. We got a bank of 30 in last year for the Secondary I (Grade 7) class. This year we got another trolley and bank of 15 for this year's Grade 7s. The new iBooks are G4s and equipped with Panther and all the perks that come with it!
Teachers of the Grade 7s and 8s are encouraged to sign out the iBooks so they can get used to the operating system and platform. Because the majority of my classes are one or the other (or both combined) of these grade levels and we already use the Mac platform at home, this wasn't too much of a hardship for me. I signed out one of the old iBooks; it is a G3 with Jaguar and a version of Safari that was very aggressive with cached pages. Today I was able to sign out one of the nice, shiny, new G4 iBooks.
Wow ... what a nice machine!
I'm going to go and play some more on the new toy ... excuse me ...
