Microchips

Well, only one microchip really. Got Maya "chipped" today in preparation of our move in June. We'll be losing our "airlock" system of preventing escaped cats. I feel better that, if she does get out and stray, at least she's got a fighting chance on being returned to us. Goober was already chipped when we got him and the cost was included in his adoption fee.

Maya was a trooper about the whole thing -- she didn't even twitch when the needle went in! She was also a lot calmer in the vet's office than Goober. Now, if only I can get her to accept the combing a bit better ...

I tuned up my bike on the weekend and took it out for a spin along the PPJ (old rail line) on Sunday. I met up with a couple of DECN teachers who were also out for a walk. They said that a bit farther down the track were a lot of wild fiddle heads for the picking. Being from New Brunswick, I couldn't pass up the chance of getting some, or at least marking their location.

I didn't find any fiddle heads, but I did find this lil guy. He hopped out of my way as I tried to climb the embankment -- you can only see'em when they actually move!

I was wishing that I had 1) a tank set up at home for him and 2) a means of getting him home safely.

As I had neither, I let him go and watched him for a minute or two before remembering that I could at least take a picture or two of him.

Wood frogs have to be one of my favourite amphibians ... right after American toads and Grey tree frogs!

Goober and Spring

My cat fetches. Really. He'll howl for springs and bring them to you to throw... not just once, but over and over. I tend to alternate between throwing them all over the apartment and pulling them out from under the stove, fridge and shelving.

If I wait till there are no more springs in plain view, then it becomes worth the effort of getting on the hands and knees to fish them out for him. Generally I'll find anywhere between 5 to 12 springs in any one location.

Sheesh. It makes him run though and has even gotten Maya interested in playing a bit again.
