Cardboard Helicopter

Interesting sculpture at the Susanne Hilberry Art Gallery: a cardboard, nearly full size, helicopter. The artist is Shannon Goff; seems she works in other media as well as cardboard. Check out the detailing on the console. Neat stuff! (via BoingBoing)

Grossology 101

Want a neat way to hook kids into learning about biology and body functions? Grossology is the way to do it! They've now put on a traveling human body exhibit at various museums; though, so far, it seems only in the US. USA Today covers the company and its exhibit a little more thoroughly. (via Gadling)

Calculator Games

The TI-83 is a programmable calculator that my students are encouraged to purchase for some of their high school courses. Both the G10 and G11 math courses are built on the assumption that the kids have them. A lot of neat tools and resources exist that use the TI-83 as a portable lab and, of course, some of the kids soon figure out how to put their own programs on the machines.

This can make teaching a bit more of a challenge as chances are, with the kids quiet and "working" with their heads down, they're really playing a game of some sort on their calculator. Now there is a new game that is available: Wolfenstein. I don't recall actually owning this game when we got our first computer, a TRS-80, but I saw it on other systems. According to the reviews it is actually a pretty playable game. Great, one more thing to keep a look out for in the classroom! Sheesh! Heh. (via Make)
