Ice Day Today ...
... so there were no school buses running but the school was still open. The freezing rain warning was lifted just before I left the house but I still had to chip about 1/2 cm of ice off the car. The roads by that time had been salted and sanded so, while full of puddles and slush, were manageable.
There were no kids at the school -- not one, not even the "walkers"! Granted the sidewalks were much worse than the roads but ...??
I still had my online Chemistry class; the weather was also nasty in Montreal, but because some kids can sign on from their homes, it was business as usual.

Boffering, Anyone?
Boffers are "contact weapons (swords, spears, clubs, arrows, hammers, etc.) that are made from light weight materials and padded with foam to prevent injury." It is a good form of exercise while releasing the day's frustrations and tensions -- works for me!
Here are two different sites that show you how to make your own boffer weapon. (Via Make 1, 2)

DIY Electrostatic Motor
Here's a neat project that fits into the Grade 10 Physical Science curriculum. I think my school could actually afford the supplies for this! Heh. (via Make)
New Site Design
The Ool has now been incorporated into the rest of my site design. Thanks to Jon for coding and layout!

Beige -- Not Just a Colour
The Arrogant Worms have a new album coming out by the end of January. I'm going to have to keep an eye open for it or maybe I'll just pre-order it. Decisions, decisions...

New Christmas Toy
Jon got me a new Palm TX for Christmas because my old m500 had lost 3 lines of pixles. It'd seen a really rough life and was used a lot on a daily basis. (Jon's post)
The new Palm is very nice and there's really no comparison between the two handhelds. The TX has a much brighter, colour screen and I really like the stylus; it has a nice weight and feels nice and solid in the hand. One of the TX's neatest features has to be the Wi-Fi! I can surf anywhere I can get a wireless signal! w00t! I think it's safe to say that the new Palm will easily get as much, if not more, use than the old m500!

Christmas Books and Current Reading
I received a bunch of books this year for Christmas. I just finished A Feast For Crows by George R. R. Martin (see previous entry). It's a great book and I can't wait for the next volumes! Right now I'm reading The Colorado Kid by Stephen King.
Update Jan 14/06: I finished The Colorado Kid, it wasn't your "typical" Stephen King novel, but that doesn't mean it wasn't good. Just don't read it if you expect a resolution or gore and nasty beasties.
